Hey neighbors! Can you believe it is already June 2026? School has been out for a couple of weeks, the sun is shining bright, and our local neighborhoods are officially in summer mode.
If your family is anything like mine, June is the month where the days blur together. Between baseball games, trips to the Aquatic Center, and backyard BBQs, it is easy to lose track of what is happening around town.
To help us all stay on track, I have gathered up the most important dates on the Grain Valley calendar for this month. Grab a magnet, put this list on your refrigerator, and let’s make sure we don't miss a thing!
June 1st to June 26th: Summer SOAR is in Session!
For many of our neighborhood families, June mornings mean one thing: Summer SOAR! The school district's summer school program is a blast for the kids, and it runs all the way through Friday, June 26th.
A Quick Reminder: There will be no school on Friday, June 19th. The district and the city are closed that day in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Make sure you plan for a long weekend with the kids!
The MCPL Summer Reading Challenge
If you are looking for a great way to beat the afternoon heat, our local Mid-Continent Public Library branch has the perfect solution. Their 2026 Summer Reading Challenge is officially underway!
The library is hosting special open-house events this week to celebrate the big kickoff. It is a wonderful, free program where kids (and adults!) can track the books they read all summer long to earn awesome prizes. They also have some really cool events lined up at the library later this month, like a Pokémon Trading Card Game day on June 8th and a Percy Jackson party on June 17th! It is the best way to keep our kids' brains sharp while keeping them entertained.
June 8th and June 22nd: Board of Aldermen Meetings
Ever wonder how our town keeps running so smoothly? Our city leaders meet twice a month at City Hall to discuss local projects, budget updates, and community safety.
This month, the Board of Aldermen will meet on Monday, June 8th and Monday, June 22nd at 6:30 p.m.
These meetings are completely open to the public. If you have ever wanted to see how our city makes decisions, it is a great habit to stop by or watch the live stream online!
June 13th: The Muddy Dash at Valley Speedway!
Get ready to get messy, neighbors! On Saturday, June 13th, the Muddy Dash is coming right here to our local Valley Speedway. This is not a serious, stressful race, it is a super fun 5K mud run designed for families, friends, and kids of all ages.
Starting at 8:00 a.m., you can run, walk, crawl, or slide through awesome obstacles and waist-deep mud pits. Costumes are highly encouraged, and there is a huge pre-party and after-party with plenty of music. If you and the kids want to get fabulously filthy and make some amazing summer memories, make sure to check out their website to grab your family's spots!
June 16th: Park Board Meeting
Speaking of our city, we can all agree that Grain Valley has some of the best parks around. From the trails to the playgrounds, our green spaces are where the community comes together. On Tuesday, June 16th at 7:00 p.m., the Park Board will be meeting at the Community Center. If you love our parks or have ideas for summer activities, this is the place to be!
A Little Real Estate Note From Your Neighbor
Before you run off to pack your pool bag, I wanted to share a quick thought as your neighborhood real estate friend.
You might notice a lot of moving trucks in the area this month. June is historically the absolute busiest month of the year for people buying and selling homes in Grain Valley. Why? Because families are racing to buy a house, unpack their boxes, and get registered for the upcoming school year before August arrives.
Because our town has such incredible summer programs, like Summer SOAR and the library's reading challenge, demand to live in our school district stays incredibly high. That is fantastic news for all of us, because it keeps our neighborhood property values strong and safe!
Let's Have a Great June!
Whether you are spending your days reading books from the library, splashing at the pool, or just relaxing on your front porch, I hope you and your family have a safe and happy start to the summer season.
If you ever see me out walking the neighborhood or picking up books at the library, please stop and say hello! And if you ever have a quick question about what homes are selling for on our street, or if you just need a recommendation for a local lawn care helper, I am always here to help a neighbor out.
